HAlf Day Taster class
make a swing lid box

In this half-day woodworking taster session, I'll guide you through making a finely proportioned swing-lid box in your choice of wood, using an interesting mix of machines and hand tools. You don't need to have any prior woodworking knowledge at all to enjoy this. There are just two places in each class so you will receive detailed tuition and have plenty of time for any questions.

Fridays, 9.30am-12.30pm or 2pm-5pm

£150 including materials

Half Day Private Class
Anything goes

This is the ideal class if you’ve got a project that you want to undertake but need guidance to get it on the right track, or are new to the craft and want a substantial primer of information and skills to set you off. You're hiring me and my workshop exclusively, so the class can be tailored to exactly fit you, the way you learn and what your intentions are. If you have always had the ambition of making something but aren't sure how to start, this is the way to go.

You can let me know how you'd like to use your time in the workshop when you're booking or closer to the time. I'll supply any materials, which are paid for separately- unless we are just using a couple of small pieces in which case it's included - and you can bring up to two people to the session (for larger groups please contact me).

Fridays, 9.30am-12.30pm or 2pm-5pm

£300 plus materials

Full Day Private Class
More of whatever you like

Just like the private half-day above, but with twice the time so we can get much more making done. People often use this class to make one of my classic projects, like the stool in this picture, to get a mix of information in the morning and a simple project like the swing-lid box in the afternoon, or to set off on a project of their own devising, so there are plentiful opportunities here.

If you have an idea for something you'd like to make, this is a great way to tackle it with all the equipment and guidance you might need on hand. You don't have to have a grand plan to get the most out of the session - I'll help help you to resolve the design so you get a successful result within the scope of the time we have. If you have something in mind, feel free to contact me to chat about its suitability – if I think your idea for a project will work, we can make it!

My workshop is now in a picturesque old market town on the edge of the breathtaking North York Moors National Park, halfway between the historic city of York and the coast. It's an ideal location if you want to combine a woodworking class with stunning scenery, fantastic walks, local food and a general holiday vibe.

I moved here in 2023 to be closer to family, after over a decade of making furniture and teaching woodworking classes for adults at my workshop in north London. My new space has the same feel – it's a real, professional woodworking workshop where I make my own furniture and commissions. You'll be using the same professional machinery and tools, in an environment full of my own random woodworking curiosities and plenty of sawdust.

I look forward to welcoming you with plentiful tea, random anecdotes, and always good cheer. Let's make some shavings!
