About me

I'm a cabinetmaker, woodworker and all-round wood enthusiast based in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire.

I consider the main output of my workshop to be enjoyment of woodworking. When I'm not having fun making things out of wood myself, I'm encouraging other people to have fun making things out of wood through my woodwork classes for adults and home woodworking project kits.

I’m particularly interested in Japanese joinery, Shaker craft techniques, midcentury cabinetmaking, green woodworking, spoon-carving and bushcraft. I also enjoy finding and refurbishing old and neglected tools such as chisels and planes, bringing them back to life and putting them to use again.

In 2023 I moved back to North Yorkshire to be closer to family in Easingwold, where I grew up, and relocated my workshop to Kirkbymoorside on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.

Before that, I spent over a decade making and teaching at my north London workshop, tucked away in the corner of Freightliners City Farm in Islington.

Woodwork has been a lifelong passion. I was given my first tiny workbench and real tools as an eight year old child and went on to study a degree in Furniture Design and Craftsmanship at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College in High Wycombe, which is the traditional furniture-making capital of the UK.

I had the honour of gaining experience in several great workshops including Geoffrey Taylor-Gell's Coxwold Cabinet Makers and Colin Mantrip's Lillyfee Carving Workshop before founding my own business in 2009.

My woodwork classes were highly commended by the Craft Skills Awards in 2013. My book, Working With Wood, was published by Search Press in 2020.
